Awards & Honours Narendra Rai bags Yudhvir award Our Bureau
Hyderabad , April 27 MR Narendra Rai Srivastava, a well-known artist, poet and musician, has won the prestigious Yudhvir Memorial Award for the year 2004. Padmashri Jagdish Mittal, a leading art historian, would confer the award on Mr Narendra Rai at a function to be held here on April 30. Instituted by the Yudhvir Foundation, the award carries a citation and Rs 25,000 in cash. The Foundation was set up to propagate ideals of late Yudhvir, a freedom fighter, social worker and senior journalist. Announcing the name of the awardee at a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr Narendra Luther, former Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh and Chairman of the Foundation, said Mr Narendra Rai's was a multi-faceted personality. "He is an accomplished artist, popular poet and musician. His paintings find place in prestigious museums like National Gallery of Art, Central Lalit Kala Academy (both in New Delhi) and Salarjung Museium," said Mr Luther, an authority on Hyderabad history and culture. Mr Narendra Rai had come out with six poetry compilations so far. He had been selected from a list of seven persons with outstanding contribution to their respective fields of operations. Eminent personalities like Mr Abid Ali Khan (1993), Prof. U.R. Rao (1997), Dr K. Anji Reddy (2000), Dr Jayaprakash Narayan (2002) and Pandit Jasraj (2003) received the award earlier. Apart from the main award, the Foundation also presents two gold medals one for the best student from Osmania University's Mass Communication and Journalism Department and the other for the meritorious student of Mother Krishna Bai School of Nursing (Musheerabad).
