New Products & Services New, powerful E-class saloon from DaimlerChrysler S. Muralidhar
Chennai , April 27 DAIMLERCHRYSLER India Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of the German carmaker is launching the E 270 CDI, a more powerful, new version of its E-class saloon. The E 270 CDI will available at the company's showrooms by the end of May. The new E-class saloon is expected to be priced at about Rs 39 lakh (ex-showroom) just marginally above the current price of the E 220 CDI. Confirming the launch plans, company officials said that it is looking at offering customers of the E-class an opportunity to upgrade to a more powerful and refined car. The officials added that with the launch of the smaller C-class saloon with the same 2,148-cc diesel engine that was also available in the E 220 CDI, DaimlerChrysler India felt that buyers of the company's flagship model have to be offered a more powerful engine to establish the E-class' premium positioning. The new E 270 CDI will be powered by a 2,685-cc, five-cylinder, common rail direct injected diesel engine that develops 177 bhp of maximum power and 400 Nm of torque. The E 270 CDI will be capable of reaching a top speed of 227 kilometres per hour (kmph) and be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.4 seconds. The new E 270 CDI will also continue to be available with only one trim-level option - the Elegance. The new E-class version will also only be available with five-speed automatic transmission. The Mercedes Benz E-class is currently available in two variants - the E 200 Kompressor and the E 220 CDI.
