IIM-C faculty moves court on fee cut issue

Our Bureau

Kolkata , April 28

THE faculty council of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta on Wednesday filed a writ petition before the Calcutta High Court challenging the validity of the meeting of the Board of Governors on March 26, which had purportedly authorised the chairman of the board to take a decision on the contentious fee cut issue. The downward fee revision was ordered by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development on all the six IIMs.

The petition limits itself to the validity of the meeting and not the propriety and validity of the fee cut order of the Ministry as the matter is pending before the Supreme Court.

The faculty's writ petition took note of the facts on record, which showed that in nominating members to the board and in appointing representatives in place of absent members, the Union Government allegedly acted in violation of governance Rules of the IIM-C.
