Telecommunications Alcatel wins ITI order for BSNL network Our Bureau
Bangalore , April 29 TELECOM box-maker Alcatel won 65 million euros (around Rs 340 crore) order from ITI Ltd to supply and install GSM network for the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, an Alcatel news release said. Alcatel and ITI has signed a pact to produce and deploy Alcatel's Evolium GSM solution to meet the booming demand of mobile solutions in India. In the first phase of this agreement, ITI will deploy the GSM equipment produced by Alcatel, such as wireless switches and base stations. Within a few months, ITI will acquire Alcatel GSM technology to manufacture this equipment under the Alcatel licence at the ITI plant in Mankapur, the release said. Mr Ravi Sharma, Managing Director of Alcatel in India stated, "India is currently a booming telecom market and it is the right time for Alcatel to develop in India, a manufacturing and distribution base for servicing both the local and the regional markets."
