Power CESC net profit at Rs 70 cr Our Bureau
KOLKATA: CESC Ltd has recorded a net profit of Rs 70 crore in its operations during the year ended March 31, 2004. In 2002-03, the net profit stood lower at Rs 7 crore. The board of directors met here on Thursday and took on record the company's unaudited financial results for the year ended March 31, 2004 and the results for the fourth quarter of the last fiscal. According to a communication received from CESC, the improvement in profit has been attributed to lower interest outgo, higher plant load factor and a lower volume of power purchase. In 2003-04, CESC's volume of power purchase stood at 863 million units compared with 1,162 million units in 2002-03. The plant load factor of its three generating stations - Budge Budge, Titagarh and Southern - stood at 80 per cent in 2003-04 compared with 76 per cent in 2002-03. In 2003-04, CESC notched a total income of Rs 2,413 crore compared with Rs 2,243 crore in 2002-03. The profit before tax stood at Rs 70 crore against Rs 8 crore and the profit after tax was Rs 70 crore (Rs 7 crore).
