Computer system for poll results in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Election Department in Kerala has put in place a computer system to announce the results of the elections to the 20 Lok Sabha seats from the State.

The counting of votes will begin at 140 centres in the State on May 13 at 8 a.m. Since electronic voting machines are being used in the elections, the full results will be known before noon that day, according to an official statement. The booth-wise results from the counting centres will be conveyed to the control room set up in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer through special telephone lines within minutes of completing the counting of votes. The department has installed 75 telephone lines for the purpose at the rate one line for two counting centres.

The final results compiled almost instantaneously by the computer system at the control room will be relayed to computer terminals installed at the 14 district headquarters and media centres. The district electoral officers, candidates and even those in the counting centres will come to know of the results first through the computer screens, the statement said.
