SEBI pact with US commodity futures trading body

Mumbai , April 29

SECURITIES and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The MoU was signed by Mr G.N. Bajpai, Chairman, SEBI and Mr James E. Newsome, Chairman, CFTC at Washington on Wednesday.

The MoU aims to strengthen communication channels and establish a framework for assistance and mutual cooperation between the two organisations, stated a SEBI press release.

The two authorities intend to consult periodically about matters of mutual interest in order to promote cooperation and market integrity and to further the protection of futures and options market participants, according to the press release.
