IICT plans to get GLP recognition

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , April 30

THE Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) is planning to go for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) accreditation for its animal house facility as per the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) guidelines.

This will make the data certified by the premier CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) institute acceptable in 40 countries.

Announcing this here at a press conference on Friday, Dr Prakash V. Diwan, Deputy Director of IICT, said the GLP recognition would be given by a monitoring authority at the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

The institute is planning to get its pharmacology division recognised by the National Accreditation Board of Testing and Calibration Laboratory of DST for the drug-testing laboratory.

The institute, in association with the city-based Reliysis Medical Devices Ltd, would set up a cath lab facility for conducting experiments on rabbits and pigs. "It will be the first such lab in Asia," he said.
