CII sets up call centre to increase voter awareness

Our Bureau

Chennai , April 30

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is doing its bit to encourage voters to exercise their franchise. In Chennai, the organisation has set up a call centre, five touch-screen kiosks in important post offices and put up banners and posters to increase awareness among public about the need to cast their votes, according to CII's Tamil Nadu State Council Chairman, Mr T.T. Ashok.

The CII has over 640 companies on its member list in Tamil Nadu, and they are also actively involved in encouraging their employees to cast their votes.

The 10-seat call centre can be contacted by dialling 5214 0404, and voters can get information regarding the voters' list, booth location and timing. The call centre is functional and will be active up to May 11, the day after the polls in Chennai.

The advertisement campaign will be through posters and slides in cinema halls, advertisements in newspapers and SMS on mobile phones.

In Bangalore, the call centre had received 500 calls a day and in Hyderabad 800. The exercise had also met with enthusiastic response in the cities where they had set up such facilities, he said.

The CII is in partnership with the State election offices in these cities and sees this work as a part of its social responsibility to provide information and enable higher voter turnout.
