Tea Good demand for teas at Kochi sale Our Bureau
Kochi , May 2 A GOOD general demand prevented any huge fall in tea prices at the Kochi tea auction this week. Of the 8.30 lakh kg on offer in the dust category, high priced teas were easier by Re 1 to Rs 3 and occasionally more. Good mediums barely steady to irregularly easier. Bottom of the market was steady. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 53 and Rs 70, medium CTC realised Rs 45-Rs 53 and poorer type were quoted Rs 38-Rs 45. High-grown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 80 and Rs 108. The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 2.24 lakh kg. Orthodox bolder brokens and whole leaf grades were fully firm to dearer. Fannings steady to occasionally easier. CTC's tended to ease. CIS operated with better strength compared to last week. Iraq buyers were active while other exporters were firm. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 53 and Rs 69, medium orthodox realised Rs 48-Rs 62. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 51 and Rs 65, while medium CTC realised Rs 38-Rs 44. In the dust category, Kodanaad CL-BOPD fetched the best priced of Rs108 followed by Pasuparai SFD by Rs 82. In the leaf varieties, both Kodanaad BOPF-CL and Havukal BOPF realised the best prices of Rs 108 followed by Chamraj OP-S Rs 96.
