Bangalore , May 3

THE Manipal Group has tied up with Quintiles Research (India) Pvt Ltd to be its preferred national partner in clinical trials in India, Nepal and South East Asia.

According to the agreement they have signed, Quintiles will have access to Manipal's integrated clinical platform across its six-campus network in these regions. Manipal, in turn, will tap Quintiles' expertise to create a skilled clinical research system within its network, Manipal said in a release here.

Quintiles will also train and assist in setting up ethics committees in the system as per ICH-GCP and ICMR requirements. The two partners said they would also form a steering committee of senior members to review, manage and collaborate on clinical trials and research projects.

Quintiles Transnational, the world's largest contract research organisation (CRO), has been operating in India through Quintiles Research for seven years. Dr Ferzaan Engineer, CEO of Quintiles India, said five international-level clinical studies were going on at the Manipal teaching hospitals and three more would be taken up shortly.

The Manipal Group CEO, Mr D.A. Prasanna, said that "Through this alliance we hope to build our research capacity within Kasturba Medical College (KMC) and our other medical institutions."
