Announcements Marketing - New Products & Services ABB unveils new wiring accessories Our Bureau
Mr Ravi Uppal, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, ABB India, at the launch of the electrical wiring accessories in Bangalore on Monday. G.R.N. Somashekar
Bangalore , May 3 ABB Ltd has launched a new range of wiring accessories including switches, regulators and sockets for the Indian market. The company has invested Rs 15 crore towards manufacturing this new line of products till date, the Managing Director, Mr Ravi Uppal, said. These products will be rolled out in the four southern States in the first phase of the launch, he added. With this new product range, ABB aims to tap Rs 800-crore organised household electrical switches and accessories market in the country, a segment that is growing at 12-15 per cent annually, he said. However, he did not detail the expected revenue from this new line in the current fiscal. The four southern States account for 25-30 per cent of the organised segment of this market. The growth in commercial spaces due to BPO boom, hospitality sector and institutional construction is likely to drive the sales of household electrical equipment in the southern States. The total size of Indian household electrical equipment market is pegged at Rs 1,600 crore, half of which is accounted for by the unorganised sector. ABB sells close to $400 million of such products globally. ABB did not detail its "ambitious promotional plan" as it unfurled its products in the `super premium' and `modular premium' segment. The company said, "pricing was competitive" tracking the several value-added features such as night-locators packed into the switches and circuit breakers. These new products will be available with ABB's channel partners and customers can book orders over the Web. "The introduction of these household distribution electricals and wiring accessories signifies the final interface device between energy and the user as the last but the most vital link in power usage," Mr Uppal said.
