Events Workshop delineates adolescent issues in AP Our Bureau
Hyderabad , May 3 A TWO-day State level workshop jointly organised by the Academy of Gandhian Studies, Plan India and Dr Reddy's Foundation on Adolescent Consultations focussed on issues relating to education, communication, health, employment opportunities, gender inequity and participation in policy-making. According to a press release issued here, though young people between 10 to 24 years of age constitute almost one-third of the population of the country, services that address adolescent issues were few and far in between. According to the workshop organisers, the meet was aimed at sharing and listening to the experiences of adolescents and youth in diverse situations to address realities. The meet will also focus on compiling, documenting and sharing experiences from people across the country and informing them of policy development and implementation through experience gained at the grassroots level. Further, the workshop also aimed to propagate that this group was a growing population with distinct needs that must be met and addressed effectively. Earlier, hundred cluster level consultations were organised simultaneously in ten districts of Andhra Pradesh, namely Chittoor, Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagaram and Medak. Over 50 per cent of the participants at the State level consultations were drawn from these districts. Thirty non-governmental organisation (NGO) practitioners working on adolescent issues participated in the consultations to lend their support for the discussions, the release said.
