Stocks rebound on opinion polls

Our Bureau

Mumbai , May 4

IF prices of key stocks were depressed yesterday due to political uncertainty, opinion polls published today indicating the return of the BJP-led alliance helped restore sentiment partly, lifting the BSE Sensex 1.11 per cent or 62.16 points. It closed the day at 5647.15.

The 50-share S&P CNX Nifty of the NSE too rose 26.40 points to finish the day at 1,793.10. Buying in auto, cement, technology and banking stocks lifted the indices. ACC, Gujarat Ambuja and Grasim were strong gainers after a foreign broking firm recommended the stock to its institutional clients.

Satyam, Wipro and Infosys led gains in the technology sector while SBI and Union Bank of India led the banking sector gainers' list.
