Meet on accreditation in Madurai

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: India is to become a member of Washington Accord, an international association of accreditation boards from various countries.

According to Mr B.S. Sonde, Chairman, National Board of Accreditation (NBA), All India Council for Technical Education, if India, which has applied for membership, is granted the recognition, it will be advantageous to Indian engineering and technology institutions and to students who go abroad, as the accreditation standards here will gain credibility and global visibility.

A three-member panel from the accord will be visiting India in September and indications are that Indian application for membership will be accepted. Members of the accord included the US, South Africa, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hungary and Ireland, he added.

Mr Sonde was here to inaugurate a one-day workshop on `Accreditation - A Right Approach' organised by the Thiagarajar College of Engineering.
