Viruses Trend Micro puts out new anti-virus tool Our Bureau
Mumbai , May 6 A RISING number of network worms such as Worm-Sasser and Slammerare being written small enough to get embedded on a single packet of information. To prevent such outbreaks, the anti-virus provider, Trend Micro has introduced the Network VirusWall that allows potential threats to be scanned, detected and blocked in an organisation's network. "In India, most such attacks go unreported and the magnitude of the problem does not get fully recognized, even though such attacks would be as destructive in India. Virus and worms, as well as the malware writers' skills have evolved dramatically over the years," Mr Niraj Kaushik, Country Sales Manager, Trend Micro India told the media here today. The Trend Micro Enterprise protection strategy aims to provide a solution against such threats, and enables anti-virus policy enforcement within organisations. The Network VirusWall enables network security administrators to control or limit access by non-compliant devices in a network. The appliance deployed at network LAN segments includes network-monitoring features to help identify sources of infection, providing enterprises with early warning to potential attacks. The new prevention appliance enables security administrators to use threat-specific knowledge to block network viruses and identify vulnerable or non-compliant networked devices. This helps to eliminate their ability to be a propagation point for internal outbreaks. "The appliance is a boon for Indian companies which have data intensive, IP intensive or PC intensive environments. Network VirusWall extends our Enterprise Protection Strategy into the network layer," Mr Kaushik said. The key components in such a strategy include, among others, vulnerability management, intrusion prevention and antivirus programming. Along with the launch of the new product, Trend Micro has also introduced Trend Micro Vulnerability Assessment that allows administrators to selectively isolate vulnerable devices from the rest of the network and patch them without disrupting other network operations. With Control Manager 3.0 and Outbreak Prevention Services, the Network VirusWall helps administrators to enforce security policies through one centrally managed location, said Mr Kaushik.
