Exports & Imports CBEC assures exporters of sorting out drawback claims Our Bureau
New Delhi , May 6 THE Finance Ministry has assured exporters that their legitimate pending claims on drawback payments would be "looked into" and settled at the earliest. The Member Customs, Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), Mr Siddharth Kak, gave this assurance to members of the Delhi Exporters' Association (DEA) here on Thursday. DEA members, who called on the CBEC Chairman, Mr A.K. Singh, urged the CBEC top brass to clear the pending claims, especially those relating to the pre-electronic data interchange (EDI) regime. Mr S.P. Agarwal, President, DEA, told presspersons that the total pending drawback claims of the exporting community, as of now, amounted to about Rs 500 crore. The pre-EDI claims that are yet to be settled amount to about Rs 100-150 crore, DEA officials said. DEA is organising an "All-India Drawback Clearance Month" from May 15 and hopes that all pending drawback claims would get settled in this month. "We have been organising this drawback clearance month each year for the last four years. It has been very effective for exporters. Last year, about Rs 1,250 crore worth of drawback claims of exporters were settled in such a month," Mr Agarwal said.
