KOCHI: A one-day workshop on the role of technical institutions in harnessing renewable energy sources organised by the Research Centre of the Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology was inaugurated by Prof K.V. Thomas, the State Minister for Excise and Fisheries.

The Minister said that engineering colleges should take up research and development projects to help tap renewable energy sources for commercial and domestic applications.

Dr P. Radhakrishnan, Director, Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, said that to solve pollution and environmental problems and to conserve traditional energy sources, more efforts should be made to disseminate the technological application of non-conventional energy to the common people. He suggested that all engineering colleges install equipment run by solar energy.
