Rubber declines as purchases halt

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , May 7

THE domestic spot rubber prices declined on Friday, surrendering the previous day's gains as the covering groups put a halt to their purchase orders.

Arrivals continued to be narrow in the absence of favourable climatic conditions and hence, trading volumes were very low. All the grades except latex lost though there was no visible selling pressure from growers.

The futures market continued its downtrend on Friday. The May delivery was quoted at Rs 56.80 (Rs 57.56), the June delivery at Rs 58.10 (Rs 58.55), the July delivery at Rs 58.12 (Rs 59.52) and the August delivery at Rs 57.33 (Rs 57.68) per kg for RSS 4.

The market opened weak and remained subdued throughout the session, with moderate volumes.

The spot market rates per kg on Friday for RSS 4 were Rs 57.75 (Rs 58.25), RSS 5 were Rs 56.50 (Rs 57), ungraded Rs 56 (Rs 56.25), ISNR 20 Rs 56.25 (Rs 56.50) and latex 60 per cent was Rs 43.50 (Rs 43.50).
