Plea against petrol price hike

Our Bureau

KOCHI: The Rajya Sabha member from Kerala, Mr K. Chandran Pillai, has criticised the move to hike the prices of petroleum products after the general elections.

Pointing out that the oil companies were raising the prices only marginally in the international market, he said that the Union Government was helping companies to raise the prices. He said this was in spite of the fact that these companies had made an increase in profit by more than 50 per cent in 2003-04.

The industry will be badly affected by the proposed hike, which would have a cascading effect on a consumer State like Kerala, he added.
