Civil services

In the 1950s and 1960s, the south Indian States, especially Tamil Nadu, had more than proportionate representation in the IAS and allied civil services. But the decline and downfall of Tamil Nadu, which started since then, continued.

This year, however, it is a reversing trend that 51 candidates from Tamil Nadu have got selected to the civil services, 15 among them have qualified for the IAS.

This success is mainly attributable to the efforts of the All-India Service Coaching Institute set up by the State Government to offer free coaching to the civil service aspirants in the State.

The State can have much greater share in the cake of the Indian Civil Service if more number of such free coaching institutes are established so as to help the candidates from rural areas to get through the civil services examination.
