Reliance Clinical looks to tap US, Europe markets

Mumbai , May 10

RELIANCE Clinical Research Services (RCRS), part of the Reliance Group, is looking to tap the clinical research segment in the US and Europe.

With the aim of becoming a global contract clinical research services provider, RCRS supports the development of pharmaceutical and bio-tech products by providing pre-clinical and clinical studies, the company said in a communiqué issued here on Monday.

According to company officials, RCRS is a separate company from the Reliance stable and was created late last year to look at the clinical research segment in an organised fashion.

It would complement the operations of Reliance Life Sciences, another group company.

RCRS is at present conducting studies for clients based in the US, the UK and West Asia and is working on leads in segments such as oncology (cancer-related), burn wounds, cardiovascular (heart-related), endocrinology (hormone-related), nephrology (kidney-related), gastroenterology (stomach-related), infectious diseases and vaccines.

Companies find India an attractive destination to conduct clinical trials, as the country has a significant population of therapy-naïve patients, or patients who have not received treatment or medication in the past. Also, the cost of clinical trials in the US and Europe are high. "Completing clinical drug trials and product development in India could be up to 75 per cent faster," the note said.
