IMF Managing Director

This is with reference to the editorial "`Reservation' at the IMF" (Business Line, May 10).

The editorial rightly points out that the choice of Mr Rodrigo Rato as the next IMF Managing Director will be welcomed by the developing countries.

Mr Rato is seen as someone who is sympathetic to the cause of developing countries.

But as pointed out by the editorial, "But beyond personalities, the key issue is the principle. The developing countries hope the managing director's post will be thrown open to candidates of all nationalities."
