Stock market movement

This is with reference to the editorial "Market is no real guide" (Business Line, May 11). As mentioned in the editorial, policy-makers everywhere tend to "to interpret in a bull market a vindication of their economic management".

It is not healthy for the economy if too much meaning is read into the movements of the stock market.

At the same time, fortunately, no similar profound meanings have been read into the rupee's movements against the dollar. This is so because stock prices have as a rule been more `visible' to lay people.
