THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Department of Health Services has decided not to lower the guard against the spread of infectious diseases, especially water-borne infections, even as the cyclone-generated rains have abated in the coastal areas.

An official spokesman quoted the Director of Health Services, Ms B. Mahilamani, as saying that it was quite possible that the water sources might have become contaminated in the aftermath of flooding. The public must therefore continue to take all preventive measures to prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases. No incidents of infectious diseases had been reported from Thiruvananthapuram district.
