Ministry reviewing dumping duty on lead acid batteries

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI: The Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry has initiated a mid-term review of the definitive anti-dumping duty on lead acid batteries originating in or exported from Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

In its recent initiation notification, the Authority held that one of the importers of the subject goods from Singapore, Base Corporation Ltd, has been approached by New Delhi for review of the anti-dumping duties levied on the subject goods on the grounds of changed circumstances.

Lead acid batteries found wider uses in vehicles and also for industrial uses, such as for back-up power for UPS applications, control rooms and telecommunications. The period of investigation for the review is April 1, 2003 to December 31, 2003, according to the notification.
