Outlook Canon aims at Rs 700-cr turnover Our Bureau
Kolkata , May 11 CANON India Pvt Ltd hopes to achieve a turnover of Rs 700 crore by 2007. In 2004, the company expects to generate a turnover of Rs 270 crore. Of this, sales of consumer imaging products alone will account for Rs 100 crore, according to Mr Alok Bharadwaj, Director & GM (Consumer Imaging & Information Division and Volume Products) of Canon India. Addressing a news conference, Mr Bharadwaj said Canon India had adopted a multi-pronged marketing strategy that was aimed at facilitating a shift in consumer preferences from analogue to digital products. Towards this end, the company today launched 20 new digital imaging products, which include digital cameras, digital camcorders, a blue tooth-enabled mobile printer and a home theatre projector.The products are priced between Rs 14,995 and Rs 85,000. An amount of Rs 20 crore has been earmarked for advertisements, marketing and brand promotion initiatives. According to Mr Bharadwaj, Canon's addressable market size in India has been pegged at Rs 1,500 crore per annum. With 5 per cent of the market shifting to the digital platform every year, this market was expected to go up to Rs 3,000 crore in the years ahead. Mr Bharadwaj said Canon was focused on offering individual customers and small office/home office (SoHo) users the complete range of digital imaging products. It plans to garner a significant market share in digital cameras, digital camcorders, all-in-ones and colour photo printers so that a 30 per cent share of the market could be achieved across all product categories where the company has a presence. Plans to expand the retail chain across the country have been firmed up. In the East, Canon plans to double the number of retail outlets from 30 to 60 in the current calendar year.
