Kerala Auto drivers on warpath

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Autorickshaw drivers belonging to the Kerala Motor and Engineering Employees Sena, which is affiliated to the Bharatheeya Kamgar Sena (BKS), is on the warpath protesting the State Government's directive requiring three-wheelers to install digital meters on every newly registered vehicle.

Office-bearers of the organisation said in a statement that the decision, if implemented, would involve a heavy financial burden. They attributed corrupt motives behind the Transport Department's decision to go in for digital meters. The use of digital meters in new vehicles and the retention of the old meters in the old vehicles would cause disparities in rates, which in turn could lead to friction between the drivers and the passengers. They urged the Government to reconsider the decision.
