Policy Kerala doctors hail move to raise retirement age Our Bureau
Kochi , May 12 THE Kerala Government Medical Officers' Association (KGMOA) has welcomed a move by the State Government to raise the retirement age for doctors. The KGMOA President, Dr C.C. Babu, told reporters that raising the retirement age would certainly improve the conditions of work for Government doctors. He pointed out that there were several vacancies in the Health Department that had not yet been filled. Around 100 doctors retire annually and another 20 to 25 doctors take voluntary retirement every year. Most of these vacancies are not filled. The problem was more acute in the speciality segments and the service conditions of the Government doctors were to be blamed for the situation, he said.
