Politics Info-Tech - Software Krishna's exit unlikely to hit IT growth, say captains Our Bureau
Bangalore , May 13 THE exit of the Chief Minister, Mr S.M. Krishna, is unlikely to have any adverse impact on the growth of the industry in the State. "In the wake of the defeat of the Congress in Karnataka, we do not foresee any adverse impact on the IT industry," said Nasscom President, Mr Kiran Karnik, in a statement. "Mr Krishna has done a commendable job of developing Karnataka as a technology-friendly State. In the process, the industry has grown and matured to the point wherein the State does not necessarily need individual champions." He added: "In our experience of working with different States, irrespective of the political party/parties in power, we have always received strong support and seen great enthusiasm to promote IT. Also, IT is recognised today as the only industry providing large-scale employment opportunities to educated youth. Given this context, we are certain that the new Governments in both AP and Karnataka will continue to encourage and promote the IT sector." Mr Nandan Nilekani, CEO and Managing Director of Infosys, said: "Mr Krishna has played an instrumental role in the growth of the IT industry in Karnataka. We believe that the industry has reached a fairly self-reliant stage and will continue to grow. There is a broad consensus on the economic reforms and we believe they will continue irrespective of whoever forms the Government."
