Industry in AP relieved by poll verdict

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , May 13

THE industry has heaved a sigh of relief that it won't be a hung Parliament, which could throw the reform process out of gear.

For trade and industry bodies in the State, the success of the Congress-led alliance is a windfall as the party has already won the Assembly elections with a huge majority.

"They will have better co-ordination as they are going to run Governments both at the Centre and State. There won't be any quarrels," said Mr S.S.R. Koteswara Rao, President of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

"If the State Government could succeed in getting one or two major industries, it will be of great help for the State," he told Business Line.

The All India Manufacturers' Organisation feels that the ascent of Congress at the Centre would not hinder the reform process.

"Industry will do well as it is not a hung situation. They can focus on continuing reforms. If it were a hung House, they could not have concentrated on reforms," said Mr G. Jayaraman, Chairman of AIMO (AP).

Mr Ramesh Datla, Chairman of CII (AP), also expects that the new Government would carry forward the reform process.

He added: "They (the incumbent Government in the State) have already announced that agriculture would be their major concern. We expect that it will focus on industry."
