Seed festival on May 18

MANGALORE: The Nagarika Seva Trust of Guruvayanakere and Parisarasakta Krishikara Vedike will hold a "seed festival" at Guruvayanakere of Dakshina Kannada district on May 18.

A press release said here on Friday that experts would deliver lectures on various aspects of local seed varieties.

Mr M.T. Shantimoole, progressive farmer from Sullia, will speak on the importance of preserving local seed varieties. Mr B.K. Devarav of Belthangady will speak about his experience in preserving local varieties of paddy. Mr Krishnaprasad, Convenor of Green Foundation, Bangalore, will speak on the management of seed banks.

The release said that Ms Shalet Pinto, Vice-President of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, would inaugurate the "seed festival".
