Bank staff reject IBA offer

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , May 14

WHILE the bank officers' union state that an agreement on salary revision is round the corner and would be signed by mid-June, the employees' union disagree with their contention.

"We have discussed and sorted out only minor issues. The crucial ones like the quantum of pay increase and employee mobility (transfer) have not been settled yet. Until these sensitive issues are resolved to our satisfaction, the settlement is at a distance," Mr. C. H. Venkatachalam, General Secretary, All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) told Business Line.

The AIBEA General Secretary said that the unions had turned down the Indian Banks Association's (IBA) offer of 8.5 per cent increase over the March 2002 wage bill.

On the transfer of employees, he said that the unions had come down from their earlier stance of relocating the employee only within the district to an expanded area. The union, he said was preparing itself to wage an agitation to press its demand soon after the formation of a new government at the Centre.
