CII to sponsor management professors to do research

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Southern Region has launched a CII Industrial Fellowship, which will support senior faculty from regional management institutes to do research at select industries.

According to a CII press release, 13 senior professors from the region have been selected in the first round.

They have been assigned projects in various organisations such as Wipro, RPG Retail, Sify, Amara Raja Batteries, ITC and Phillips Medical Systems.

Mr P.K. Mohapatra, who chairs CII's education subcommittee, also chairs the fellowship's governing council.

Quoting Mr Mohapatra, the release said that apart from research projects, the faculty could also analyse business processes, critical strategies and goals of host industries. The findings and recommendations would be submitted to the host organisation.

This initiative will encourage research and help institutes design curriculum to produce graduates capable of facing challenges at the work environment.

At a round table on `industry-institute-interaction - What works' organised to coincide with the launch, Dr M. Anandakrishnan, Chairman, All-India Council for Technical Education's (AICTE) (southern region), suggested that a fund be set up by the industry and institutions to run this project on a long-term basis.

The AICTE would also support in contributing to the fund.
