Textiles Training for weavers in TN Our Correspondent
MADURAI: Skills in new products were imparted to weavers at a 10-day programme jointly organised by the Gandhi Gram Rural Institute (GRI) and the Commissionerate of Handloom and Textiles at Dindigul, near here. Besides giving training in the production of value-added products such as fashion garments, embroidery, screen-printing and batik printing, the weavers were trained in manufacturing export items and methods of exporting handloom items. According to the Vice-Chancellor of GRI, Dr G. Pankajam, if the weavers organised themselves into self-help groups, they could avail themselves of micro credit facilities and conduct of buyer-seller meets could help them market their products beneficially. Weavers from Dindigul and Palani took part in the training programme.
