Politics Industry & Economy - Infrastructure New Govt to review Vizag projects Our Bureau
Visakhapatnam , May 16 THE Congress Government, led by Dr Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy, is planning to review all the projects relating to Visakhapatnam sanctioned by the Telugu Desam Government and take suitable remedial steps in the interests of the public, Mr D. Satyanarayana, the senior Congress leader elected from Visakhapatnam constituency, has said. Mr Satyanarayana was speaking at a press meet here on Sunday. He thanked the people of Visakhapatnam for electing him and said he would strive for the development of his constituency in particular and Visakhapatnam city in general. Referring to the Visakhapatnam industrial water project, meant to divert 5 tmc ft of Godavari waters from the East Godavari to Visakhapatnam for industrial and domestic use, he said the Congress Government would complete the project taken up by the TDP government and the Godavari waters would reach Visakhapatnam later this year. "But the project was entrusted to the Larsen and Toubro for implementation under controversial circumstances by the TDP Government and that would be reviewed," he said. Similarly, he said, the other projects relating to Visakhapatnam too would come up for scrutiny and review. "Our Chief Minister has made it clear that even though there will be no vindictiveness on our part, we will review the projects. The good ones will stay and the rest will go," he said. To a question whether this wholesale review will not undermine the confidence of the corporate sector and the lack of continuity in policies will not affect the investments coming into the State, he said the TDP Government had taken up many questionable projects and sanctioned or sold sites to them on the beach road and at other places. "Of necessity, we have to review them. We are duty-bound to do so in public interest," he added.
