Rubber up on poor arrivals

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , May 17

SPOT rubber prices moved up further on Monday.

As expectations of an improvement in arrivals failed to materialise on the resumption of rains, covering groups started to offer better quotations to procure enough quantum to fulfil their commitments. All the grades except latex gained on the buying spree.

Sources indicated the presence of certain tyre companies in the market. The purchases from the general rubber goods sector also helped the revival.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 improved to Rs 59.50 from Rs 58.50 a kg on Saturday. At Bangkok RSS 3 moved up to Rs 63.97 from Rs 63.14 a kg and the TOCOM June futures for RSS 3 closed at 154.6 yen against 153 yen a kg on Friday.

The rubber futures showed a weak trend on Monday. The near month June delivery was quoted at Rs 59.17 (59.17), July delivery at Rs.59.11 (59.15), August delivery at Rs 58.20 (58.70) and September delivery at Rs 57.80 (60.10) per kg for RSS 4. The transactions were in a low key.

The spot market rates per kg on Monday were as follows:RSS 4 59.50 (58.50); RSS 5 57.75 (57.25); ungraded 57.50 (56.50); ISNR 20 57.25 (56.75); latex 60 per cent 43.75 (43.75).
