Shipping KCCI plea to stop fish drying in Old Mangalore Port Our Bureau
Mangalore , May 17 THE Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the district administration to ban activities related to fish drying in the Old Mangalore Port area during August-December. A press release by the KCCI President, Mr R.D. Kini, said here on Monday that people of Mangalore are facing "housefly menace" from August to December owing to the activities related to fish drying at Bengre area in the Old Mangalore Port. Lack of a proper waste disposal system in the city has also added its share to the fly menace, he said. In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Aravind Srivastav, Mr Kini said that a solution to ban fish drying in Old Mangalore Port during August-December period eluded in spite of best efforts by the KCCI, district administration, and the authorities of Old Mangalore Port, Pollution Control Board and Fisheries College, in this regard.
