Tata Tele in pact with China Unicom

Our Bureau

Mumbai , May 19

TWO large companies from the potentially largest telecom markets in India - Asia and China - have decided to associate with each other for understanding and cooperation in the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) space.

Tata Teleservices has signed a memorandum of understanding with China Unicom for joint development of applications on the CDMA technology platform.

But the immediate outcome of the association would be the offer of international roaming services by both the signatories on each others' CDMA networks, said a news release from TTSL.

In fact, the Chairman of China Unicom, Mr Wang Jianzhou, was down for the signing ceremony; he and his counterpart from TTSL, Mr F.A. Vandrevala, went through the formalities of the MoU.

The applications jointly developed by the players would deliver more and more value-added services to the subscribers of both the telecom operators who would come out with innovate offers from time to time as well, said the news release.

While TTSL is a pure CDMA player, China Unicom offers both CDMA and GSM services.
