24-member Cabinet in AP

THE Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, inducted 24 Ministers into his Cabinet. They were sworn-in by the Governor, Mr Surjit Singh Barnala, at Raj Bhavan here on Saturday. The members of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), an electoral ally of the Congress, did not figure in the list of Ministers.

Talking to newspersons after the swearing-in ceremony, Dr Reddy said that TRS had so far not indicated regarding whom to be included in his Ministry. He also said that the five districts, which have not been given representation in the present Ministry, would be accommodated when he expanded the Cabinet shortly.

Among the 24 Ministers, 10 are from the Telangana region and 11 from coastal Andhra. Only three Ministers belong to the Rayalaseema region from where Dr Reddy hails. The five districts that have not been represented in the current Ministry are Hyderabad, Chittoor, Khammam, West Godavari and Mahabubnagar.

The Ministers who were sworn-in include three women, two members of the Muslim community and two persons from scheduled tribes. While five Ministers belong to the backward classes, an equal number of persons belong to the scheduled castes. The portfolios of the Ministers were expected to be announced later.

The Ministers are Mohd Ali Shabbir, Mr J.C. Diwakar Reddy, Mohd Fariddudin, Ms J. Geeta Reddy, Mr K. Jana Reddy, Mr P. Laxmaiah, Mr K. Laxminarayana, Mr M. Mareppa, Mr D. Prasada Rao, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, Ms. N. Rajyalaxmi, Mr K. Ramakrishna, Mr J. Ramamohan Rao, Mr K. Ranga Rao, Mr D. Redya Naik, Mr K. Rosaiah, Ms. P. Sabitha Reddy, Mr B. Satyanarayana, Mr M. Satyanarayana Rao, Mr D. Srinivas, Mr G. Surya Rao, Mr P. Venkateshwara Rao, Mr S. Vijayarama Raju and Mr G. Vinod.
