Thiruvananthapuram , May 23

THE State Government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for modernising the library under the Kerala Sahithya Academy.

According to the Minister for Cultural Affairs, Mr G. Karthikeyan, the work on the library will be completed within a year. The Minister held talks in this regard with the academy office-bearers and officials of the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT).

There are over a lakh of books in the academy library. Of these, books up to 1950 have already been micro-filmed and preserved. The remaining books also would be digitalised, the Minister said.

The plan is to establish a digital archive in the first phase and this will be upgraded later into an online digital library.
