Painting expo at HSBC, Kochi

Our Bureau

KOCHI: It could be the last place in Kochi to hold an exhibition of award winning paintings, but HSBC believes that in its premises, money and art mixes pretty well.

So you have an exhibition of paintings by noted artist Francis Kodankandath on at the HSBC branch here in the city. Named `Mindscapes', the exhibition of 25 paintings is open to general public during banking hours from 24 to 28 May. Mr Kodankandath, the first Keralite to win the National Academy Award in 17 years, is also displaying his award-winning painting, `Restoration Within', at the exhibition.

In line with the surroundings and with bankers looking on, Mr Kodankandath spoke about the merits of `investing in paintings' rather than dwelling on art and artists. Art galleries in Mumbai had a turnover of Rs 1,500 crore last year, he pointed out.

According to Mr Amit Tandon, Vice-President and Branch Manager of HSBC, the exhibition is part of efforts by the bank to promote local artists and provide platform for bringing art and art lovers under one roof. The bank has organised similar events elsewhere in the country.
