`Educate farmers on co-op movement'

THE former President of the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative (Campco) Ltd, Mr K. Rama Bhat, has said that farmers should be educated about the importance of co-operative movement in agriculture sector.

He was speaking after felicitating the former Campco President, Mr B. Nagaraja Shetty, who has been elected to the Legislative Assembly from Bantwal constituency. Stating that youths are not paying attention to agriculture sector, Mr Bhat said that the participation of young farmers in co-operative movement would help take agriculture sector to new heights.

The former Director of Campco, Mr D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who has been elected to the Lok Sabha from Mangalore constituency, said that agriculture sector is contributing more than 70 per cent to the economy of the region. He promised that he would fight for the welfare of areca and coffee growers in the region.

The founder-president of Campco, Mr V. Subraya Bhat, said that most of the farmers are not aware of their productivity cost. They face problems whenever the market crashes, he said.
