The Hindu Business Line : IICCI moots indigenous model of Israel's kibbutz

APPRECIATING Andhra Pradesh for according special focus on agriculture, the Indo-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IICCI) has suggested that the Government establish indigenous version of Israel's kibbutz in the State.

Kibbutz is a unique rural community in Israel where workers live together and share all the duties and income.

"With the Chief Minister going for pro-farmer, pro-small community oriented policies, the Government can set up an indigenous version of kibbutz as a model in rural areas and empower backward communities," Mr Ken Sagar, President of IICCI, said.

Congratulating the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on his party's landslide victory in the recent polls, Mr Sagar sought cooperation between the State and Israel in the areas of agriculture and agro-based industries.

Identifying Andhra Pradesh as an important State for forging collaborations, the Israeli chamber planned to invite Mr David Danieli, Israeli Ambassador, to Andhra Pradesh for a meeting with the Chief Minister.

The Economic Department at the Embassy of Israel, in association with IICCI, identified Andhra Pradesh as a strategic area of cooperation in several segments, especially agriculture, the IICCI President said here in a statement.

It would also hold a special seminar on telecom in Hyderabad next week to accelerate economic collaboration between the State and Israel.

He said more vibrant relationship between Israel and Andhra Pradesh could be developed.

"Advanced technologies from Israel could benefit about 70 per cent of population who depend on agriculture in India. Using the advanced techniques, India could utilise its abundant land and resources to the optimum level and compete in the global markets," he said.

Vast stretches of land would be covered through new irrigation projects. "This will lead to newer areas of cooperation and huge business opportunities in herbal, neutraceuticals, bio-medicinal, green houses and other agro-based industries," Mr Sagar said.
