THE newly appointed Minister for Small-Scale, Agro and Rural Industries, Mr Mahavir Prasad, has said that he would endeavour to put an end to migration of people from rural to urban areas, provide jobs to youth in villages, including those in far-flung areas, and put an end to `Inspector Raj.'
Requesting newspersons for more time to fully understand the issues facing the small sector, Mr Prasad who took charge on Tuesday indicated that he would talk with the Reserve Bank of India and other banks on the issue of interest rates being charged from the sector.
"I will see what needs to be done for the benefit of the sector. I will also approach the Prime Minister if the need arises. Besides, if the funds allocated to the sector are properly spent and there is need for more funds I will not hesitate to seek more funds," Mr Prasad said.
Emphasising on the need for providing employment to the youth in the villages itself, the Minister said that he had instructed the Ministry officials to visit the far-flung villages to ensure that the youth are employed. "Every one goes to the big industry. But we need to focus on the small industry in the villages," Mr Prasad said.
