Telecommunications Marketing - Strategy Tata Tele lines up slew of value-added services in Maharashtra Our Bureau
Pune May 26 TATA Teleservices is all set to give its customers a range of value-added services on its CDMA network. The company is planning to launch push to talk (PTT), pre-paid facility, data connectivity, and games and data application, according to Mr Y.V.L. Pandit, COO, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) These value-added services would hit the country soon. The company has recently signed a non-binding MoU with Qualcomm to use its BREWChat solution to offer PTT services in the country, he added. This is an improvised version of the SMS wherein the customers would now receive voice instead of the message that flashes across the mobile screen. "This is a facility, a success in the US, which helps large groups of people such as sales teams or construction engineers to obtain a signal from a central source and take down the orders for the day at the push of a button." It saves time for the central source, as it need not punch in repeatedly the different numbers to alert the members. The platform would enable Tata Indicom customers to download games, ring tones, communication, e-mail and business focused applications. The solution also gives the ability to differentiate its services with multimedia messaging services (MMS), Web browsers and customised user interfaces. Mr Pandit said that the company is planning to launch its services in 34 new towns in the Pune region. The total investment would be close to Rs 100 crore, from the Rs 700 crore earmarked for expansion in Maharashtra. With this, the total investment in Maharashtra would touch Rs 3,700 crore.
