Our Bureau

Hyderabad , May 26

AS many as five members of the new Council of Ministers in Andhra Pradesh were born in February, the shortest month of the year.

More interestingly, February 15 turns out to be a significant date for the new Cabinet. Three of the Ministers - Mr Gollapalli Surya Rao, Mr Mohd. Shabbir Ali and Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah - were born on that date, though in different years.

While Mr Rao (Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development), a diploma holder in telecommunications, was born in Ravulapalem in East Godavari in Coastal Andhra on February 15, 1951, Mr Ali (Information and Public Relations), a commerce graduate, was born at Kamareddy of Nizamabad district in Telangana on the same day in 1957.

The other 1944-born Aquarian, Mr Lakshmaiah (Major Irrigation), an engineer who studied in the US, hails from Kilashatanda village of Warangal district in Telangana.

Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy (Agriculture Minister), a law graduate hailing from Madakasira in Anantapur district of Rayalseema region, was born on February 12, 1957.

Another Minister from the same district, Mr J.C. Diwakar Reddy (Panchayat Raj), a science graduate and close confidant of the Chief Minister, was born on February 23, 1945.

Four July-born Ministers are the second biggest zodiac contingent in the 24-member Cabinet.
