Air-India to levy fuel surcharge

Our Bureau

Mumbai , May 26

AIR-INDIA has decided to levy a fuel surcharge on tickets, effective Wednesday.

The surcharge imposed is $9 for destinations in the US and $4 on all other destinations.

A spokesman for Air-India said the airline had to impose the fuel surcharge in view of the continuing rise in global oil prices. The surcharge, which would partly offset the additional burden on the airline's fuel bill, would be withdrawn once the global prices of oil stabilised, he said. The imposition of the fuel surcharge would raise the fare by Rs 180 and Rs 400 approximately, based on the sector that the passenger was travelling on.
