Reducing fiscal deficit

It is after many efforts to reduce government overheads, that Andhra Pradesh was able to reduce its fiscal deficit to 5 per cent in 2001-02.

The new Chief Minister's offer of free power to the farmers of the State has to be seen only in the light of fulfilling election promises.

Every State has to have the twin goals of effecting welfare to the masses, but not at the cost of fiscal imprudence.

G. Narasimha Raghavan
