INDIAN Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), which operates the Taj group of hotels, will set up a business hotel at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram. The total investment in the hotel, which will be built on land leased to IHCL by the Technopark, is expected to be approximately Rs 30 crore.

An agreement on this venture was signed on Thursday by Ms Sheila Nair, Director, Roots Corporation (a subsidiary of IHCL) and Mr N.R. Mahalingam, CEO, Technopark. Commenting on this development, Mr P.K. Kunhalikutty, Minister-IT and Industries, Government of Kerala, said the new hotel project will help enhance Kerala's status as an attractive IT destination. The hotel will be the first of its kind at any technology park in the country, said a press release issued on the occasion.

The 100-room hotel, which will be the first Taj property in Kerala's capital city, is targeted at meeting the needs of business visitors to the city, especially the Technopark. To be located near the Technopark Club, facilities at the hotel will include restaurants, conference halls and recreation facilities. Besides, the hotel will also have space for other services such as cyber cafes and ATMs, it added.
